Not so tough now, are you?

It was a full Nature vs nature battle today, with a chance encounter on Queen Street West between Rick, Joe, and myself and a slew of angry, vengence-addled pigeons.  (See, I recognize some species)

I won't bore you, but as we had a food court to attend, the inevitable showdown was postponed to a future date, to the satisfaction of no one.  Rest assured, if nature calls us out, we will answer, but we're not looking for anything other than adventure.  And toys.  And a decent food court.

(Wendy, where was that A&W again?)

That abnormal beast that was lurking outside my window has been identified, thanks to a bird-admiring friend and famous person, whom I will not be namedropping here, as a red-tailed bird. I believe, although he didn't specifically say (there was a delicious container of coffee to get to, after all), it was a hawk, a close relative of the owl family. Obviously, you can understand my confusion, as a result of the duress I was subjected to by this invasion of the space I had previously only shared with teenage raccoons doing what teenaged raccoons do. Noisily. I hope this bird eats them, and goes back to where ever it comes from, before property values go down even further.

With our expertise and interest in the natural environs surrounding us, my brothers Joe and Nick and I have decided to embark on a grand adventure, sharing the glory of the wilderness that surrounds us every day! Join us regularly to see the wonders that the natural world has to offer us.
For my own part, I'd like to dedicate the blog to the spirit of two gentlemen whose spirit infuses my love and fear of the living planet I find myself on. So, thanks and much love to Marlon Perkins and Mark Trail.
This day found me wandering through an area of Toronto know to the locals as "Chinatown", and it appeared utterly bereft of animal life, with a couple of tasty exceptions. Naturally, I thought the experience would be uplifting, I ate a couple of them. I can heartily recommend this to you, especially encased in a sweet bread!
Now don't get me wrong, I don't plan on eating all the critters I see on my travels, and I think I can say the same for my blog brother, Joe Nature, but to be clear, I'm not saying I won't either. We'll be playing this one by ear.

Be careful what you wish for...

So, me and my pals have a ridiculous blog, purportedly examining the wilderness the city provides us. How does Mother Nature react? She parks a giant owl outside my window, making a mockery of the mockery we are intending to make! Turnabout! Dammit, that's just wrong!

Let's be clear, I think it was an owl. The coloring was unfamiliar, and it didn't make any cartoon owl sounds, but the head looked right, and, well, I want it to be an owl. We've been spectacularly unscientific so far, and I'm not messing with that record. The iPhone would have been hopeless, and the little camera got a tight enough photo to prove it wasn't a plastic bag caught in the high branches, but that's it. Now I have to keep my binoculars near, in case some other beast parks it's keister in my sightlines. Good play, nature, but I'm sure you'll have to sleep sometime.

Nature seems to still be sleeping...

It's a quiet world out there for urban nature, and I still can't post photos from the phone, but my Nature brothers never stop observing the wonders around us. Fret not, soon we shall have some images on here to shock and delight even the most jaded urbanite! That's our promise to you.

Tuesday 1 March 2011

Hello friends, and nature lovers!

Soon, Joe, Rick, and I will be full fledged bloggers, sharing our exploits with, uh, well, so far it's the two of you, but we're sure that's gonna grow.
I hope to post some of the photos i've taken of the wildlife I've seen, and the Brothers Nature will show you there is little to fear out there.
Keep reading, it may someday be worth it!
